Qatar's ratings on the global stage recently got another high score as the country rose from 18th place to 12th place in the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2023, which is published annually by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, out of 64 countries, most of which are highly developed.
According to the report, the ranking was based on national statistics provided to IMD as well as the result of surveying a sample of businessmen and entrepreneurs who provided their views of Qatar’s competitive economic climate.
Areas where Qatar ranked highly in the report included economic performance (ranked 5), government efficiency (ranked 4), business efficiency (ranked 12), and improving its rank in infrastructure (ranked 33).
The new rating is the latest in a long list of high rankings Qatar has been globally acknowledged for within the last year alone. In December, Qatar retained its ranking as the highest in the world in mobile internet speeds, according to the Speedtest Global Index for the Median Country Speeds. According to the report, Qatar reached 263.37 Mbps on modern chipsets across all mobile technologies, with median 5G download performance hitting 472.13 Mbps in November 2022.
Additionally, the country was ranked first globally in ‘efficiency of the labor market’ in March. The ranking indicated that Qatar secured the top position globally in efficiency of the labor market’ and ‘employment rate with vocational education’ in the Global Knowledge Index (GKI) 2022, which was published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Foundation Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF).
The GKI also emphasized Qatar’s exceptional performance in five indicators that revolved around education and employment rates, as it has been rated first in terms of the researcher’s share of Research and Development (R&D) expenditure.
Qatar also held first place in the lowest rate of unemployment among higher and vocational education graduates and in the proportion of technical education and vocational training jobs. The country secured the second position in enabling a favorable educational environment and the first globally in the percentage of primary and secondary schools with access to computers.
These giant strides have continued to indicate the tremendous progress Qatar is making in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, anchored by the progressive and right-thinking leadership of the country.
Kudos to Qatar for yet another feather in its cap!
