Doha: An existing U-turn on Al Luqta Street will be closed to enable the construction of an underpass on the Dukhan Highway East project.
The Public Works Authority, (Ashghal) announced the minor road change, which is located near Nega Al Sahla Street in the Bani Hajer area. The traffic change will commence on Friday June 23, 2017, and is expected to be in operation until February 2018.
As shown on the attached map, the U-Turn on Al Luqta Street near one of the Education City entrances will be closed. Normal road users who are travelling eastbound on Al Luqta Street who wish to return to Dukhan are advised to continue straight and take a U-Turn prior to the Nega Al Sahla Street traffic signal.
Truck drivers and other heavy vehicles will be required to continue to the Nega Al Sahla Street traffic signal, turn right and take a U-Turn at the designated heavy vehicle turnaround point (shown in the top right of the map) and return to the Nega Al Sahla Street traffic signal before turning left towards Dukhan.
Ashghal advises that the newly created U-turn will only provide one lane for road users to turnaround. The Public Works Authority is also required to reduce the number of lanes on Al Luqta Street for the short section of road between the old U-Turn point and the new U-Turn point from three lanes to two lanes.
Ashghal urged all road users to abide by the speed limit, which remains at 50 kph, and follow newly implemented traffic road signs to ensure their safety.
