Doha, Qatar: Qatar achieved a distinguished accomplishment at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026), with student Laith Tuwair receiving an honorary certificate.

The Olympiad was held in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, from July 10-21, 2026, with the participation of more than 121 countries from around the world. Six students represented Qatar at this global scientific event, competing against a select group of gifted mathematicians in one of the most prestigious and challenging international science competitions. This marked Qatar’s second participation in the Olympiad, following its debut in the 66th edition in 2005.

The awarding of an honorary certificate to student Laith Tuwair exemplifies the scientific progress achieved by Qatari students in international competitions, demonstrating their mathematical reasoning and analytical abilities, as well as their capacity to solve unconventional problems. It also reflects the fruitful efforts invested in preparing and training gifted students according to international standards.

This achievement culminated in an intensive training programme spanning several months. The programme included advanced scientific preparation in various branches of Olympiad mathematics, along with specialized academic supervision, which contributed to honing the students’ skills, developing their analytical and creative thinking abilities, and enabling them to tackle highly complex mathematical problems.

Throughout the preparation and participation phases, the Qatari team members demonstrated a high degree of seriousness, discipline, and commitment, and were keen to benefit from the training programmes and preparatory camps. This reflected their awareness of the importance of representing the State of Qatar at this global scientific event.

This participation underscores the commitment of the Educational Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, represented by the Educational Guidance Department, to nurturing gifted students, discovering their talents, developing their scientific abilities, and preparing them to compete in international forums. This contributes to building a creative generation capable of contributing to the advancement of science and innovation.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education extends its sincere congratulations to student Laith Tuwair and all members of the Qatari team, commending their efforts and their honourable representation of the State of Qatar, and wishing them continued success and achievements in future scientific endeavours.
