Doha: The Charge d’Affaires at Romania’s Embassy in the State of Qatar, Iulia Zamfirescu, affirmed that the year 2020 bears special significance for the relation between Romania and the state of Qatar, because the round figure of 30 years of diplomatic relations was marked on October 22nd, stressing that there is mutual desire to continue to explore the potential of cooperation, both bilaterally and in multilateral fora between the two countries.
In a special statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Iulia said that Qatar National Day is the occasion to celebrate the country’s achievements, which this year deserve special recognition, given the difficult COVID-19 pandemic context.
Qatar has remained strong and its projects have continued to develop and to grow, adding every day to the beauty and magnificence of its skyline.
She affirmed that Romania, like Qatar, is a keen promoter of friendship and peace between countries, within the framework of international law. “This close similarity of views has resulted in an excellent collaboration between Romania and Qatar at the level of the UN,” she added.
The Charge d’Affaires noted the prosperity and development of the State of Qatar, and that Qatar stands out as a country in which wealth, wisdom and determination have merged together in an optimal mix, conducing to a prosperous and safe country, not just for its nationals but also for its numerous residents. “As a foreign diplomat in Qatar, one cannot help being impressed by its openness towards the world and its overarching and vivid diplomacy, which continued to thrive even in the COVID-19 period”, she added.
With regard to the measures taken by the State of Qatar to confront the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Charge d’Affairs at the Embassy of Romania expressed her satisfaction and admiration for these measures, which kept the situation under control and provided a feeling of safety and comfort for all who live on the land of the State of Qatar.
“Qatar has done an admirable job, managing to reverse the trend from a very high peak. Thanks to the decisive mix of measures, sustained by the solid health infrastructure, we are now advantaged, in Qatar, to enjoy a gradual return to normal life”, she said.
She praised Qatar’s generosity in supporting the fight against COVID-19 worldwide adding that “Romania too is thankful to the State of Qatar for its friendly gesture of granting medical support equipment and sanitary materials - to our hospitals, in October”.
