The guests from across the world are set to gather in Doha on Monday (October 2) for Expo 2023 Doha, the second-largest global event in Qatar after FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The event embodies shared commitment to mitigate desertification and its far-reaching consequences by leveraging education and innovative solutions and doubling down on international cooperation in the fight against climate change. Qatar is welcoming its distinguished guests and visitors to present and discuss the best innovative solutions designed to confront the major environmental challenges facing the region and the world today.
Spanning 1.7 million square meters, the event takes place in the scenic Al Bidda Park, one of the biggest parks in Doha, offering breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf.
Secretary General of Expo 2023 Doha, Mohamed Ali Al Khoury said that the expo is based on four main themes which are: modern agriculture, technology and innovation, environmental awareness, and sustainability, through a series of events and unique promotional activities. He said that this exhibition confirms Qatar’s commitment to sustainable development and international cooperation, in line with its National Vision 2030.
Running for 179 days from October 2, 2023 till March 28, 2024 and aiming to reach more than 3 million visitors, Expo Doha 2023 will offer guests with an opportunity to visit ornamental gardens, attend public debates, conferences, live shows and enjoy art and culinary performances in the dedicated area in Al Bidda Park spanning across 1.7 million square metres and facing the azure waters of the Arabian Gulf.
As a collaboration between the Bureau International Des Expositions (BIE) and the International Association for Horticultural Producers (AIPH), Expo Doha 2023 will attract visitors locally and internationally, pavilions from almost 80 countries, NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), and representatives. The upcoming Expo 2023 Doha is not just a magnificent showcase of gardens and stunning landscapes. It is an event with a deeper purpose — to educate visitors on sustainability and climate change and to introduce new technologies for climate change adaptation.
The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Secretary General, Dimitri Kerkentzes, recently highlighted the significance of education at expos and emphasised the urgent need for global cooperation in tackling climate change. BIE is the organisation responsible for overseeing and regulating world expos. The expo will serves as a platform to inform the general public about the steps needed to adapt to the challenges posed by climate change. The expo brings together countries from various regions, each with their own unique climates, to collectively educate visitors about the necessary changes that must be made in their daily lives.
