Upon the road map drawn by the 41st Gulf Summit, which was held in Al-Ula on January 5 this year, Gulf reconciliation process has come a long way, especially in the Qatari-Saudi course opening new horizons for the relations of the two countries.
The rapid development of Qatari-Saudi relations and their fast return to the pre-crisis situation, the exchange of ambassadors and visits at the highest levels, were the most prominent features that distinguished the dynamism and vitality of the relationship of these two countries, and distinguished the course of their relations from other parties within the framework of efforts to implement the principles set up by Al-Ula Summit to end the crisis.
As has been expressed by the Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the State of Qatar, His Highness Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan Al Saud, during his first exclusive interview with a Qatari media outlet, this is mainly because of peculiarity of the relationship of the two countries and their peoples.
In an exclusive interview, the Saudi envoy told The Peninsula that, what make the Qatari-Saudi reconciliation course unique is the political will and wisdom of the leadership, their keenness to enhance joint Gulf action, the awareness of society and the well-established traditions of managing disputes, as well as by virtue of old understanding and love that existed between the two ruling families in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
This understanding and harmony represented solid foundation for cooperation and strengthening relations in all fields. Upon the basic principles and laid down by Al-Ula Summit the two countries have formed joint committees, held many rounds of talks to address all pending issues in depth with transparency and they managed to solve many, and have left few limited under consideration. As the Envoy had stressed that he is absolutely confident that the two countries would reach a full agreement and solve all the pending matters.
The countries have established joint Saudi-Qatari committees including legal committee and follow-up committee which they have held several meetings in Doha and Riyadh respectively. As Prince Mansour pointed out that the discussions are taking place in a constructive, fraternal and friendly atmosphere and will eventually reach full agreement on all issues.
The success of Qatari diplomacy in facilitating settlement of many disputes including its role in Afghanistan crisis and flock of international figures to Doha was also appreciated by H H Prince Mansour, considering success of Qatar is success for the region, as the main objective of the GCC and individual countries in the region including Saudi Arabia and Qatar is to make peace, ensure security and stability.
