Qatar is always in the forefront of supporting the rights of workers in the country. The State of Qatar is making continuous efforts at the legislative and institutional level on protecting the rights of workers and providing decent work environment for men and women alike. The country also spares no effort to devote and promote all the rights of labourers in line with the directives of the authorities.

Qatar has also announced the inauguration of a shelter and human welfare centre, to be concerned with providing the necessary assistance and protection to victims of human trafficking as well as rehabilitating and integrating them into society, in addition to providing shelter for temporary workers until their exit from the state is ensured.

It’s laudable that Qatar is also in the process of establishing a workers’ support fund which deals with the payment of the worker’s financial dues upon the decision of the Labour Dispute Settlement Committee, in case their employers go bankrupt.

The State of Qatar has also taken a number of measures and integrated laws to protect the rights of workers and to create and provide a healthy and safe working environment. Qatar has launched a package of policies and legislative amendments to achieve decent work environment for expatriate workers and to establish and promote balanced and productive working relations between the two parties.

At a function yesterday, Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, H E Dr Issa Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi referred to Law No. 13 of 2017 amending certain provisions of the Labor Law, including the establishment of labor dispute settlement committees, with a view to establishing a speedy and effective remedy mechanism for the settlement of disputes between the worker and the employer, and finally the domestic workers act, as well as the establishment of the National Committee for Combatting Human Trafficking to act as the national coordinator for monitoring, preventing and combating trafficking in human beings.

These kind of welfare measures taken by Qatari government and its various agencies were reflected by the participation of thousands of the Asian communities members at the various programme held during the Eid Al Fitr. The Eid celebrations also included awareness in the areas of security and safety, laws regulating the entry and exit of expatriates, the labor market and other laws and regulations.

Such programmes and events reflect Qatar’s interest in all those who live on this land and its continuous keenness to reach out to the communities to enhance the community partnership.
