The State of Qatar and the Republic of Iraq enjoy distinct and solid relations based on brotherhood, common religion, cultural values, destiny, interests, goals, ambitions, fraternal cooperation, and historical ties that go back to the ancient history that united the two countries. The people of the two countries are bound by distinguished brotherly relations based on the bonds of rapprochement, social cohesion, and common denominators.

Iraq is an essential player in regional and global politics and can contribute actively to establishing peace and security in the Middle East region. To do so, it needs to restore the historical position it deserves at regional and international levels. Qatar believes that Iraq’s stability and security represent the stability and security of the region.

Qatar-Iraq relations are steadily rising thanks to the continuous high-level contact between the two countries’ leaderships and at various ministerial levels.

The official visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Iraq yesterday comes within the context of continuous consultation and coordination aimed at serving the interest of the two peoples, promoting peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the region and worldwide.

The Amir held talks with Iraq’s Prime Minister H E Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, to strengthen the fraternal relations with regional and international issues of common interest also discussed by the two leaders.

It is worth mentioning that the bilateral relations between both countries are regulated by a series of agreements and memoranda of understanding in various areas. A notable development of Amir’s visit was his announcement of Qatar’s intention to invest $5 billion in several sectors in Iraq during the coming years.

The Amir’s visit to Baghdad also saw the signing of several agreements and MoUs covering a range of sectors. The agreements covered aspects such as air transport services, maritime transport, the signing of a joint declaration of intent, and a memorandum of understanding on cancelling travel visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports of the two countries.

Private sector representatives also signed agreements in infrastructure, tourism and health. These deals are expected to open economic, commercial, and investment cooperation horizons between the two countries to serve their common interests.

Amir’s visit to Iraq will lift the two countries’ bilateral ties to new heights and enhance coordination in many areas. The visit is also significant, as it has coincided with several important developments requiring coordination and consultation at the highest levels.
