Qatar's wise leadership is well-aware that a healthy and educated population is the most important asset to be cherished. The state plans its national development strategies and approaches based on this vision to build on the achievements over the past years.
Keeping this in mind, the country had launched its National Health Strategy 2018-2022, which is built on the awareness that the development of a nation’s health system not only sustains well-being and treats ill health, but also is a critical investment in its communities and future.
The strategy was developed taking into consideration three basic factors such as the UN Agenda for Development, which stresses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, the WHO concept of Universal Health Coverage and the regional context of political fluctuations, changing demographics, mobile workforce, competition among health services and critical economic shift.
The country has left no stone unturned in its march toward realising the goals of the strategy within the targeted time-frame. Qatar has already passed several milestones in this journey by opening various medical and therapeutic institutions such as the new Trauma and Emergency Center and three new hospitals in Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City etc.
The Ministry of Public Health and the Hamad Medical Corporation in cooperation with other entities in the health sector have hosted several international and regional conferences and meetings aimed at gaining more experience and expertise in medical field and sharing the skills and know-how the country has achieved so far. The recently concluded Qatar Pediatric Emergency Medicine Conference (Q-PEM), hosted by Sidra Medicine in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation, is the latest among these.
More than 400 health care professionals, including physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, allied health practitioners and pharmacists gathered in Doha to discuss modern trends, technologies and treatment methodologies in the field of emergency child care. As a tertiary care hospital and academic medical center, Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, is playing a vital role in enhancing the health care services for women and children in Qatar and beyond. Its international professionals with diverse experience offer an unparalleled child care.
The first priority population group in the National Health Strategy is healthy children and adolescents. By targetting the newborn and adolescents, the country is ensuring a healthy future generation who will be instrumental in taking the nation towards progress and development and ensuring the country’s leading role in the global arena.
