In less than 50 days, Qatar will be hosting one of the biggest sporting spectacles in the world, where top stars from track and field will compete against each other to become champions, for which they have toiled day and night for years.
Highly anticipated IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 will be off the blocks from Friday, September 27. The 10-day sporting extravaganza will be the biggest ever sporting event to be held in the region and preparation for the same are progressing at a very fast pace as Doha gets ready to welcome over 3,500 elite athletes and officials from 213 countries into the country.
The Doha Worlds will be the 17th edition of the championships and will be held at the iconic Khalifa International Stadium. By hosting Asian Championship and Diamond League this year, Khalifa Stadium has already won much praise for its facilities from athletes, officials and the travelling fans.
The air-cooling system in the stadium got special mention from everyone as it kept the temperature inside the venue at pleasant 20s. Having the right temperature brings out the best from athletes and experts suggest that fans could witness some historic sporting moments during the Doha Worlds.
One of the advantages for the Doha championship is that it will be having only one session in the evening unlike earlier ones, where they had two sessions - morning and evening. This will give a lot of time for the visitors to explore and experience Qatar and moreover, it will cut travelling time from and to the stadium.
Another first in the Doha World will be the midnight marathon. For the first time marathon races for men and women will be held at midnight along the Corniche and it will be a new experience for the runners and fans alike.
The local organisers have vowed to provide fans a good time during the ten days of the championship with many activities planned at the World Athletics Village. Even before the gun goes off at the starting blocks, fans can enjoy live entertainment from different cultures, taste food from around the world, compete and test your athletic skills and get to know the heritage of Qatar at the Village.
Qatar’s own Mutaz Essa Barshim and Abderrahman Samba, US’s recent world-record-breaker Dalilah Muhammad, Kenya’s Wilson Kipsang and Ethiopian star Mosinet Geremew are all expected to push boundaries and set new marks at the Championship. This is going to be very griping 10 days and no sports enthusiast would want to miss this.
