Development projects in Qatar have attracted large number of expatriate workers from all over the world. The managing of their affairs and making efforts to create conducive work environment and decent living conditions have taken a great deal of attention from the State and Qatari society over a time of two decades.

The State has carried out many legal reforms, monitoring and inspection works in order to protect the rights of the expatriate workers within the framework of a comprehensive development vision considering labours partners in the development process that has changed all aspects of life in Qatar. Qatar opened the doors for all international organizations to see the pioneering experience in improving labour legislation and its implementation mechanisms.

Since development is a continuous process, the need for manpower will continue, as well the work of legal reforms and improving the quality of life for labourers,  a fact that reiterated by the Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri. The State of Qatar has dealt seriously with all constructive proposals with regard to improving and upgrading the work environment in line with the main principles of Qatar National Vision 2030, a commitment to building a modern and dynamic Labour market.

The labour reforms implemented during the past ten years made Qatar one of the pioneering countries at the level of work in adopting a sustainable approach to improving and upgrading the work environment, even after the organization of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, said the Minister.

As the review of legislative developments and updates of rules and their executive mechanisms is a approach that stems from the State’s orientation and its long-term development vision, and that is why it will remain unaffected by allegations claimed to tarnish the reputation of the State of Qatar, but as the Minister stated it will increase the determination to move forward in improving the work environment and implementing the reforms that have taken place during the past years.

As well Qatar will continue cooperating with international organizations such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) to promote development of work environment in Qatar while rejecting defamation and dissemination of lies and baseless accusations against Qatar and its reforms efforts in the employment sector.

Vice President of the European Parliament (EP) Eva Kaili said that she is well aware of the great progress achieved by Qatar in the field of the labour market and added citing ILO office in Qatar, that “Qatar could be a role model for the countries of the region and beyond in that field”.
