To Defeat the common threat of COVID-19 pandemic, which has badly affected almost all nations, a joint international strategy based on enhanced mutual cooperation and assistance is the need of the hour.
Qatar, from the day first of spread of pandemic, is not only dealing with the challenge in cooperation with World Health Organization and other global bodies, countries but also playing an effective and vibrant role at global level in helping different nations need support in their fight against coronavirus disease.
Reiterating Qatar’s policy, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has called on the international community to cooperate and stand together in facing the economic consequences of the pandemic, whether it is a decrease in oil prices or a possible economic recession.
H E the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also referred to the invitation of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent, in a speech to the heads of countries of the world, especially the major industrialised countries and relevant international organisations, to cooperate and not compete in discovering and producing vaccines and disease treatments, and it would not be possible to face the economic and social consequences of the pandemic without cooperation and coordination worldwide and at the highest and broadest levels.
Last week, H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocate, Chairperson of Education Above All and Silatech, also joined prominent leaders in a global advocacy effort “Rise for All” to support the UN Secretary-General’s call for solidarity and urgent action in response to the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19, and to save lives and protect livelihoods, urging leaders in all countries, across all sectors, to address the human crisis of the pandemic.
The group comprised of global female leaders from various sectors was convened by UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed to mobilize an extraordinary scale-up of international support and political commitment to “build back better” and ensure that people everywhere have access to essential services and social protection.
H E Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, on Thursday provided officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) with an overview of Qatar’s strategy to contain and curb the spread of COVID-19, which has focused heavily on contact tracing to isolate, test, and treat as part of breaking the chain of transmission.
Qatar has received global recognition for its efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic due to having one of the lowest mortality rates in the world.
