The diplomatic ties between the State of Qatar and the Federative Republic of Brazil were established in 1974, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to fortify relations and explore new avenues of cooperation. Over the years, the two nations have engaged in high-level visits, regular political consultations, and coordinated efforts on both regional and global issues.

The recent visit of Brazil’s President, H E Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, to Qatar is a testament to the strategic vision shared by both countries. This vision aims to enhance their relationship by fostering cooperation in response to political and economic challenges, with the goal of further developing and strengthening bilateral ties.

During the official talks between the leaders, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the focus was on advancing joint cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy, economy, and investment. Additionally, discussions covered prominent regional and international issues, including the evolving situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. Qatar, recognized as a major regional player and a key global partner, is committed to addressing these issues.

Given the uncertainties surrounding the situation in the Gaza Strip and the potential resumption of Israeli attacks, both leaders emphasised the necessity of achieving a permanent ceasefire. Their joint efforts also underscored the importance of protecting civilians, delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, and finding a resolution to the Palestinian issue, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

President Lula, acknowledging the significance of investment for both nations, urged Qatari investors to explore opportunities in Brazil across various sectors. The economic relations and fraternal bonds between Qatar and Brazil were highlighted, with both countries expressing a keen interest in strengthening cooperation. Qatar, as a gateway to the Middle East region, holds strategic value for Brazil, which, in turn, offers substantial potential for attracting investors from Qatar and the broader region.

Brazil’s status as the fourth-largest agricultural-producing country globally was emphasised, with the country being a major producer of coffee, sugarcane, citrus, soybeans, beef, and poultry.

President Lula encouraged Brazilian firms to boost their investments in Qatar through collaboration with Qatari counterparts, fostering active partnerships and commercial alliances that would mutually benefit both economies.

The State of Qatar strives and aspires to strengthen its relations with the world’s most influential countries, including Brazil with aims of opening new horizons to serve the interests of the Qatari and Brazilian peoples.
