Stockholm: A fire broke out on Tuesday at the Nynas oil refinery in the Swedish municipality of Nynashamn, resulting in some light injuries, police and other emergency responders said.
"According to staff on site it is crude oil that is on fire," a spokesperson for the local fire and rescue service told Reuters.
There were no buildings on fire, however, and there did not appear to be risk of the flames spreading, the spokesperson said.
Police in a statement said several persons with minor injuries were being checked on site.
Images published by daily Aftonbladet and SR public radio showed thick black smoke rising over the refinery located some 50 kilometres (30 miles) south of the Swedish capital Stockholm.
Police cordoned off the area while rescue services worked at the site, a police spokesperson said.
