Doha, Qatar: Qatar Airways Cargo has safely transported six rescued beluga whales from Canada to the United States as part of an international relocation effort.
In a video shared on social media, Qatar Airways gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the complex operation involved in transporting the marine mammals, highlighting the careful planning and coordination required to ensure their safety and well-being throughout the journey.
The relocation involved a team of veterinarians specialising in marine mammal care, who were familiar with the whales’ medical histories and accompanied them throughout the transport.
The specialists monitored the belugas during the flight and continued providing care upon their arrival at their new home in the US.
The whales were also transported in specially designed animal containers built specifically for belugas.
The six belugas were relocated from Marineland in Ontario, Canada, to accredited facilities in the United States. The marine park, which closed in 2024, began transferring its remaining whales due to financial difficulties and challenges in continuing their care.
