Doha: The College of the North Atlantic - Qatar’s Engineering faculty member, Hanan Farhat, lead key discussions in Paris recently with regards to developing international standards for the petroleum and LNG industry.

Farhat, Mechanical Engineering instructor, was one of two members that represented Qatar and co-chaired the meeting.  Farhat represented the College, at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee Working Group meeting in partnership with the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP).

Corrosion prevention and engineering experts from different oil and gas producing countries were in attendance to discuss newly developed international standards, and proposed standards. The measures discussed at this meeting will set the standards for all the oil and gas producers around the world.

The International Association of Oil and Gas Producers supported this committee meeting which specializes in materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries. Qatar has been leading and chairing this oil and gas working group since its initiation in 2010.

“CNA-Q, being the State’s premier college for technical education and applied research, has a long history of, and a wealth of experience in, working with industry to better advance the country. Actively engaging and contributing to such an international standards organization is a natural fit for the role of CNA-Q in supporting Qatar’s industries through education, analysis and problem solving,” said Samah Gamar.
