Gulf delegation visits Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre in Mesaieed

Doha: A delegation from GCC General-Secretariat visited the Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre (DSWMC) in Mesaieed upon an invitation from Qatar to GCC Coordination and Follow-up Committee in the field of municipal work during its 39th meeting in April.

The visit was intended to brief the delegations on the centre’s potential and efforts marking the occasion of its winning of the GCC prize in the field of municipal work in its 4th session on the best category of the project of waste treatment and conversion into a source of energy, and introduce the State of Qatar’s experience in the field of wastes recycling and treatment, including the operation phases in the centre. 

Assistant Director of Waste Recycling and Treatment Department at the Ministry of Municipality Hassan Al Nasr paid tribute to DSWMC for winning GCC Prize in the field of municipal work, where the center offers sustainable environmental solutions for wastes treatment and conversion into energy, fertiliser.
The centre is supplying the General Electricity & Water Corporation with the power energy which contributes to the process of comprehensive development and renaissance being witnessed by Qatar, clarifying that DSWMC receives domestic, green and animal wastes from the relay stations of Department of Waste Recycling and Treatment, which are subsequently distributed across the State of Qatar. 

Al Nasr pointed out that the centre offers sustainable environmental solutions to treat these wastes, which are primarily recycled to produce energy and fertilizer to be further utilized in the public parks, streets, parks, and beautification projects in the State of Qatar and are distributed freely to the citizens, which contribute to achieving the strategy of wastes recycling and treatment in developing the sustainability across the State of Qatar. 

He added that the centre is one of the largest waste treatment centres in the Middle East region and offers a unique experience to utilize and acquire experiences in the area of wastes recycling and treatment with their various types.

During the visit, Eng Jawaher Al Sulaiti, from the waste recycling and treatment department, made a presentation on the Al Afja area for recycling industries and an introductory presentation on the Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre.
