Doha: The Royal Thai Embassy in Doha is celebrating Thailand’s rich culinary heritage through “Thailand on a Plate: A Culinary Journey,” a culinary diplomacy initiative designed to strengthen cultural ties and people-to-people connections between Thailand and Qatar.
Running from August 3 to 11, the programme is being held at four award-winning Thai restaurants in Doha, Benjarong at Dusit Doha Hotel, Isaan at Grand Hyatt Doha Hotel & Villas, Thai Kitchen at Centara West Bay Hotel & Residences, and Saffron at Banyan Tree Doha Hotel.
The initiative brings together members of the media, the diplomatic corps, the Qatar Businesswomen Association and the public for hands-on cooking sessions led by professional Thai chefs. Participants are introduced to authentic Thai cuisine while learning about traditional recipes, cooking techniques, distinctive ingredients and the cultural values that shape Thailand’s culinary identity.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Kit Devahastin, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Thai Embassy in Doha, said Thai cuisine reflects the country’s culture, creativity and hospitality, adding that initiatives such as “Thailand on a Plate” create opportunities for cultural exchange and shared experiences between the people of Thailand and Qatar.
He also highlighted the role of Thai restaurants in Qatar in promoting Thai culture, noting that they have introduced authentic flavours and traditions to both the local community and residents from around the world. Building on this connection, the Embassy will organise the second edition of “Thai Restaurant Week 2026: A Taste of Thailand” in September.
Thai cuisine is regarded as one of the country’s most celebrated cultural assets, combining centuries of culinary tradition with regional diversity, fresh ingredients and a strong culture of hospitality. Through the initiative, the Embassy also seeks to promote Thailand as a destination for gastronomy, wellness and cultural tourism while supporting Thai restaurants in Qatar.
“Thailand on a Plate: A Culinary Journey” builds on the Embassy’s previous cultural initiatives, including Thai Souq Fest 2024, Thai Restaurant Week 2025 and Together at the Table 2026, which have used food as a platform to strengthen cultural exchange and deepen friendship between Thailand and Qatar.
The programme continues until August 11, offering participants an opportunity to experience authentic Thai cuisine while discovering the traditions and stories behind one of Thailand’s most recognised cultural treasures.
