Doha, Qatar: The General Authority of Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantities of prohibited tobacco products into the country through a maritime shipment.
In a social media post, the customs announced that Doha Port and Northern Ports Customs officers intercepted 1,650 kilograms of chewing tobacco and 22,005 packs of cigarettes concealed aboard a vessel.
According to Qatar Customs, the contraband was hidden inside hidden compartments within the vessel in an attempt to evade customs duties and bypass inspection procedures, in violation of the country's customs laws and regulations.
