Islamabad: Pakistan's Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized over 1,076 kg of narcotics and arrested 33 suspects during a series of operations across the country over the past five days, the ANF said in a statement on Friday.
The seized drugs, worth more than 302 million Pakistani rupees (about 1.09 million U.S. dollars), were recovered in coordinated raids in various districts.
In Islamabad and its neighboring Rawalpindi district, the ANF confiscated over 20 kg of hashish, heroin and crystal meth from vehicles, courier parcels and motorcyclists, including suspects who confessed to selling drugs to students.
In the southern port city of Karachi, the ANF recovered 384 kg of potassium permanganate from a warehouse and seized parcels containing ice drugs destined for Australia.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 96 kg of hashish and 50.4 kg of opium were recovered from a vehicle in Peshawar, while 56 kg of hashish was seized in a separate operation.
A major haul of 168 kg of heroin was made in Loralai district of the southwest Balochistan province, and several other seizures took place near toll plazas, courier offices and smuggling routes.
All suspects have been booked under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act and further investigations are underway, the ANF said.
