DOHA: The grace period allowed to private sector entities to install CCTV cameras in their premises lapses by April-end.
A law that makes it mandatory for companies to have CCTV cameras in their premises, comes into effect from May 1.
The law makes it mandatory for a number of private entities, including hotels, residential complexes, banks, exchange houses, jewellery shops, sport clubs, cultural centres, shopping centres, entertainment places, hospitals, clinics, warehouses and stores to set up surveillance cameras at its premises.
The owners of these installations are required to ensure that these cameras are working round the clock and regularly maintained. Erring entities will get severe punishments, up to three years in jail and fine maximum QR50,000 or one of them.
