Doha: The Media and Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic recently organised a number of traffic awareness activities as part of its annual plan to spread good traffic culture among motorists.
The first week included awareness lectures for communities, traffic competitions on the Department’s social media accounts, enhancing traffic safety for young people, and religious lectures.
The General Directorate of Traffic started its Ramadan programme through an awareness lecture for the Indian community. The lecture focused on the legal issues for pedestrians.
The participants were introduced to the dangers of randomly crossing the road and the instructions to be followed to avoid run-over accidents.
The lecture also dealt with pedestrian traffic violations, types, and consequences. It stressed the need to respect traffic law and avoid inappropriate traffic behaviours that cause many traffic accidents.
The lecture also dealt with the most common violations during Ramadan and safe driving instructions before Iftar and Suhoor. The Department said that its Ramadan awareness plan for the second week of Ramadan includes special awareness lectures for delivery drivers, including activities aimed at raising road safety awareness among them.
It also includes meeting with a member of the Central Municipal Council to find out the traffic situation across some specific areas in cooperation with the Hamad Trauma Center.
The Department recently seized about 350 vehicles for committing several traffic violations. The most prominent violations included drifting, reckless driving, speed limit violations, car racing, tinting violation, and creating loud noises.
The General Directorate of Traffic emphasised it will not tolerate the perpetrators of these violations as their choices endanger other road users.
