A mega cultural festival ‘Passage to India’ will be held at Museum of Islamic Arts (MIA) Park in January 2020. The festival, earlier scheduled for December 12, will now be held on January 16 and 17.

In line with the Qatar India Year of Culture 2019, Museum of Islamic Arts, Embassy of India in Qatar and Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) will be conducting the Indian Community Festival on January 16 and 17, 2020.

The highlights of the festival include colourful cultural programmes from Qatar and different states of India, display of life size monuments from India and stalls highlighting various customs, art and craft, textiles and products from India. The festival will also have food outlets by Indian vendors providing various delicacies from different regions of India.

Salem Abdulla Al Aswad, Deputy Director Learning and Outreach, finalised this in a meeting with the ICC representatives including Manikantan AP, President; Seenu Pillai General Secretary; Nayana Wagh, Head of Cultural & Educational Activities; and Nirmala Shanmuga Pandian, Cultural Coordinator.

The meeting was also attended by Sarah Tose, Head of Academic Programs; Abdulla Al Dosari, Acting Deputy Director – Operations; Saad Al Kaabi, Head of Security; Yasser Shazly, MIA Park Engineer; Rashid Al Muraikhi, Senior Garden Specialist; and Kaiser Colomo, Facilities Specialist for Museum of Islamic Art.

Al Aswad said in the meeting that this event will be first of its kind and will be an opportunity to appreciate the long-time Indian residents of Qatar who have contributed to the country’s growth.

Manikantan said that Indian Cultural Centre had conducted the Indian community festival during 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 and had attracted thousands of visitors every day.
