DOHA: The jury for the 11th Al Jazeera International Documentary Festival has started reviewing the films competing for awards.
The 15-member jury from various countries was divided into three committees.
The first has been tasked to choose awardees in the Long Film section and includes Dr Khaled Al Zadjali (Oman), Abdullah Abo-Awad (Morocco), Galina Krasnoborova (Russia), Dr Maryse Gargour (France) and Chaker Ayadi (Tunisia).
In the Medium Film section the committee comprises Tongdao Zhang (China), Hala Zuraiqat (Jordan), Jelena Mila (Sweden), Jose Sanchez-Montes (Spain), and Omar Olzabal Rodriguez (Cuba). Jurors in the Short Film section are Dr Rabia Al Kuwari (Qatar), Erkan Baker (Turkey), Kaveh Askari (US), Piccinno Rossella (Italy), and Majid Sheikh Ansari (Iran). Festival Director Abbas Arnaout said each committee will choose the winning films according to international technical standards. The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony on November 29 at the Ritz-Carlton Doha.
The awards include Al Jazeera Golden Award, Jury Award, New Horizon Award, Al Jazeera Documentary Channel Award, Public Liberties and Human Rights Award, and Child and Family Award.
With the theme ‘Horizons’, this year’s festival has received 920 entry forms and 775 films, out of which 148 were shortlisted, including 30 long, 50 medium, 47 short and 20 new horizon films.
