Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) warned against the use of products containing exosomes in the form of injections, which are used for a range of medical and cosmetic indications.
The Pharmacy and Drug Control Department of the Ministry, in a circular dated July 19, 2026, stated it has observed some products containing exosomes being promoted for injectable use.
The circular comes as a step towards safeguarding patient health and safety.
"As of the date of this notice, no exosome product has been approved for injectable use - for either medical or cosmetic purposes - by the Pharmacy and Drug Control Department, Ministry of Public Health-Qatar or the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)," the MoPH said, adding that any authorised exosome products are for external (topical) use only.
The Ministry added that it is strictly prohibited to administer exosome injections in any manner, promote them with unapproved therapeutic or cosmetic claims, or use them outside their authorised topical applications.
The Ministry further affirmed that the safety and efficacy of these injectable products have not been scientifically proven and may pose health risks.
The Ministry warned that non-compliance may result in regulatory and legal action against violators, in accordance with, the applicable legislation of the State of Qatar.
It urged individuals and concerned entities to fully comply with these regulations to ensure public health and safety.
