DOHA: Al Arabi recorded an impressive 4-2 win over points leaders Al Sadd in round 12 of Qatar Stars League (QSL), yesterday.
Al Arabi’s second straight win puts them in 11th spot with 11 points, while Al Sadd maintain top spot with 31 points.
Significantly, Al Sadd’s lead at the top is down to six points after Lekhwiya left it late to win 2-1 against Al Sailiyah.
Lekhwiya has 25 points, while Al Sailiyah remains rooted at the bottom with five points.
In other QSL action, Al Kharaitiyat and Al Khor drew 0-0.
Both sides have 11 points.
Al Arabi started the match confidently creating chances and putting Al Sadd under pressure.
Wanderley Junior doubled his side’s lead in the 31st minute, after the home team went ahead in the 15th minute.
The Brazilian forward dribbled the ball and lashed a shot past Al Sadd goalkeepr Mohamed Saqr.
Al Sadd pulled one back shortly before half-time when he tapped in Nadir Belhadji’s cross.
In the second half, Al Sadd put the home side under pressure, but Al Arabi restored their two-goal cushion thanks to Abdelaziz Hatem.
Ibrahim Khalfan replied for Al Sadd, courtesy of a penalty to set up a frantic finish, but Al Arabi sealed the three points when Boulalem Khouskhi lashed his shot past Saqr.
Elsewhere, Sebastian Soria scored his ninth goal of the season when he brilliantly headed Adel Ahmed’s cross in the 74th minute.
Ten minutes later, Al Sailiyah made it 1-1, when Beli Dagano converted a penalty late in the game.
Lekhwiya, pressed for the winner and were rewarded when Issiar Dia scored late into stoppage time.THE PENINSULA
