Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, H E Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, affirmed that the Qatar-Libya relation is very old based on mutual respect and cooperation in all fields. In an interview with Al Jazeera TV, H E Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah said: “There is importance to reach a political solution to the Libyan crisis, and this political solution comes through the political agreement and the outputs of the Skhirat Agreement in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions.

There is no other option except a political solution, which is what we urge our brothers in Libya.” On regional and international initiatives, H E Dr. Khalid said: “We cannot dictate to the brothers in Libya in which direction they go, but there must be intentions for a political solution and these intentions must be sincere and there must be partners.” On the recent visit of His Excellency accompanied by the Turkish Minister of Defence to Libya, H E Dr. Al Attiyah said: “The meetings with the brothers in Libya and the Turkish Minister of Defence were all fruitful. The meetings were for consultation and discussion about the best ways to protect the unity of Libya and how to combat mercenaries from any side.” H E the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs added the mercenaries cause anxiety in Libya.

“We also talked about a political solution and openness to the parties that want a viable political solution to the Libyan crisis,” H E the Minister said. His Excellency said: “What we have seen from the discussions in Libya with all the parties in the Government of National Accord is their openness to the political solution and we found great positivity in adopting this option.” H E the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs said that the Government of National Accord has a sincere intention to stop the bloodshed and sit down to find a political solution that serves Libya and its people and thus results from a civilian government.

His Excellency added: “What we fear is the militarisation of Libya, and at the core of the discussion of the three parties is to encourage how to avoid the militarisation of Libya and take Libya to safety so that the Libyan parties reach a political solution for the civil state that all Libyans desire.” H E the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the international community has a great responsibility to ensure that Haftar’s actions and aggression against Libyan cities are not repeated, warning that if the Libyan issue is not set on the right track, which is the path of a political solution, it may result in problems for Libya and the neighbouring countries.
