Texas A&M University at Qatar and the Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) Executive Education Center will hold their second Fundamentals of Cybersecurity certificate programme beginning March 24.
The Fundamentals of Cybersecurity certificate programme, established in 2018, aims to equip professionals with the skills they need to protect data and security in Qatar.
The programme covers topics related to basic concepts behind modern cryptographic systems and how these concepts can be employed to secure data and private communications.
Attendees will learn about the collection and analysis of open-source and publicly available information, white hacking techniques for stealth collection, methodologies for the evaluation and validation of sources of open and publicly available information, and OSINT best practices.
This program will show participants how to conduct penetration testing and forensic investigations, allowing users and administrators to configure computers in order to stop cyber-attacks, or at least minimize their negative impact. It will also cover the basics of wireless networks and show principal attacks on a wireless network involving the three components of the confidentiality, integrity and accessibility (CIA) triads.
Understanding this material will allow the user or administrator to build countermeasures in order to protect the wireless network. Dr Marwan Khraisheh, senior research director at HBKU, said, “The University’s collaboration with Texas A&M University at Qatar to provide a customised program on cybersecurity and meet the needs of the government and private sectors is aligned with its mandate of fostering local partnerships, as well as promoting knowledge in areas deemed necessary to meet today’s global challenges.”
The course will be offered in four modules: Applied Cryptography and Data Privacy, March 24 to 26; Open Source Intelligence in Cyberspace, from March 31 to April 2; Mobile and Wireless Security, from April 7 to 9; and Penetration Testing and Forensics, April 15 to 17 April.
Dr César O. Malavé, dean of Texas A&M at Qatar, said, “At Texas A&M at Qatar, our continuing education courses offer great value for local working professionals who can apply their newly gained knowledge and skills immediately on the job and increase their value to their employers.
