Thundery rain, strong winds, high seas tonight: Department of Meteorology

Doha, Qatar: The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for Thursday night, March 19, 2026, until 6am on Friday, forecasting thundery rain, strong winds, and high seas across Qatar.

Inshore, conditions are expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered rain, which may become thundery in some areas.

Winds will be northwesterly to northeasterly at 5 to 15 knots, gusting up to 25 knots, shifting to easterly to southeasterly by late night.

Sea heights inshore will range from 1 to 3 feet, surging up to 5 feet during thundery rain, while visibility may drop to 3 kilometers or less in heavy rain.

Offshore, skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with scattered rain that could turn thundery. Winds are expected from northwesterly to northeasterly at 6 to 16 knots, gusting up to 26 knots.

Offshore seas will range from 2 to 4 feet, surging to 8 feet in thundery rain, with visibility similarly reduced to 3 kilometers or less.

Authorities urge residents and mariners to take necessary precautions and follow official safety instructions.
