Doha: Fans will be in for a treat when the global stars will be in action in Doha during the 48th FIG World Artistic Gymnastics Championships which will be staged from October 25 to November 3 at Aspire Dome.
The organisers are finalising the arrangements to host a memorable event while the Director of Facilities of the Organising Committee for the championships, Abdulrahman Al Muftah expects a large turnout at the first worlds of the Middle East.
“We are expecting a large audience during this tournament. We have therefore increased the seating capacity to accommodate around 6,000 spectators. We appreciate the efforts and the cooperation of the officials at the Aspire Academy in helping us in the same,” Al Muftah said.
Sure of delivering an outstanding event, he said the Qatar Gymnastics Federation was in a near-ready state. “We have completed almost all arrangements. All championship apparatus will be installed at the championship hall by on September 28 and the venue will be fully equipped,” he assured.
“I would like to thank the great support we have received from the Organising Committee towards attaining our goals. We have been keen on accomplishing the tasks quickly and accurately.
“It is the biggest meet in terms of participation, the largest in the history of world gymnastics Championship and we are proud that this extraordinary edition will be unveiled in Qatar. It is a catalyst for us to organise the event in a distinctive way which reflects Qatar’s capabilities in hosting world events,” Al Muftah said.
Going into details of how everything is meticulously being attended to, he explained, “The tournament will be held at the Aspire Dome, and we are providing four training halls and a warm-up hall, besides the championship hall. We have full cooperation of all officials from various sub-committees for the championship to be able to provide this.”
“The Women’s Sports Committee has also facilitated the provision of two additional rooms in keeping with the standards of the International Gymastics Federation (FIG). We are happy to do our best and seek the best,” he added.
To ensure that all areas with regards to the tournament are well provided for, the organisers have also sought co-operation from the swimming federation and the water sports committee.
“We have succeeded in cooperating with other federations, such as the Qatar Swimming Association and the Water Sports Committee to ensure best arrangements for all participating delegates and the media,” he said.
“More than 300 journalists from all over the world are expected to attend and the media centre will be equipped with the all the services needed.”
The smooth work towards the organisation has been a result of the seamless co-ordination.
“The Qatar Olympic Committee and Qatar Gymnastics Federation are in constant contact with FIG and there is a great deal of cooperation which reflects the confidence of the international federation in the Qatari organisation. There are specific requirements as needed by FIG, but we have succeeded in providing for all that, and have added more to achieve greater success,” Al Muftah said.
Over 700 gymnasts from 85 countries will be seen in action at the world gymnastics, the largest in the tournament’s history.
