Doha: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) held its annual Sport Excellence Awards at Barahat Msheireb yesterday to honour those who made glorious achievements and took Qatar’s name to greater heights at the Olympic and sports levels during the year 2021.

Abdulrahman Abdulqader Abdulrahman and Sara Hamdi Masoud were declared best para-athletes.

Apart from the athletes, the awards were presented to the administrators, sport personalities and institutions supporting the sports, with the attendance of prominent sport and public figures, representatives of government and private organisations, who spared no effort in support of Qatari sport movement during a challenging sport season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

H E Sheikh Joaan said that these ongoing series of success of team Qatar at different domains are an outcome of unlimited support given by the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the first supporter of sports.

Meanwhile, the QOC Secretary General Jassim Rashid Al Buenain delivered messages of thanks and gratitude to H H the Amir for his unlimited support to the Qatar sports.

“We made history and stole the spotlights at Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games after adding unprecedented achievements to the Qatar’s sport record,” he said.
