Participants during a training workshop.
Doha, Qatar: As part of its efforts to strengthen Islamic identity and connect younger generations with the beauty of the Arabic language, the Qatar International Arabic Calligraphy Competition Committee, “Al-Raqim” — affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Museum of Islamic Art — organized two training workshops as part of summer center programmes.
The workshops were organised in collaboration with the School Programmes and Activities Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The workshops aimed to introduce students to the world of Arabic calligraphy and its authentic artistic traditions. A total of 70 students from Omar Bin Al-Khattab Secondary School and Al-Wakra Secondary School participated in these workshops, which offered a rich interactive experience that helped develop their artistic and handwriting skills, and introduced them to Arabic calligraphy as a profound cultural and aesthetic element.
This initiative aligns with the educational and ethical vision of the “Al-Raqim” Competition, which seeks to connect the new generation with the visual and historical identity of the Muslim Ummah by reviving the art of Arabic calligraphy. It also aims to instil moral values expressed through the phrases used in training and to highlight the strong link between Arabic calligraphy and the Holy Qur’an, which has been preserved throughout the ages in this artistic form, with its manuscripts adorned by the ink of beauty.
The training programme included a visual presentation on the history and evolution of Arabic calligraphy over time.
