Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality has called on farmers to conduct regular inspections of palm trees to ensure the early detection of infestations by the red palm weevil, one of the most destructive pests affecting date palms.
In an agricultural advisory issued as part of its ongoing efforts to support sustainable farming practices, the ministry emphasized that periodic monitoring and inspection of palm trees play a vital role in identifying infestations at an early stage and limiting their spread. Early intervention, it noted, helps protect trees, preserve orchard health, and maintain the quality and productivity of date harvests.
The ministry also advised farmers to discontinue the use of pesticides once the date fruits begin to ripen, stressing that this measure is essential to ensuring the production of safe and healthy dates for consumers.
As part of its support services to farmers, the ministry encouraged those seeking information or assistance with palm pest control to submit requests through Oun mobile application.
