DOHA: The new Crescent of the Hijri month “Al Moharram 1440 H” will be seen today 29 Dhul-Hijja 1439 H (September 9) at 09:02pm Doha local time, said Qatar Calendar House in a statement, yesterday.
Dr Beshir Marzouk, Astronomer expert at Qatar Calendar House, said: “We can note that the new crescent of Hijri month Al Moharram 1440 H will be seen after the sunset time over Qatar sky and at all Arab nation region sky today.”
The the moon will set over Doha sky at 5:46pm today, while the sunset time will be at 5:45pm Doha local time, ie. Moon will be set on Qatar sky after Sunset time by one minute. The time of the moonset will be after sunset time over the sky of two holy mosques (Makkah & Madinah) and over all Gulf countries will vary between 0 and 3 minutes.
Dr Marzouk said: The new crescent will be impossible to view with astronomical telescopes or naked eye over Qatar sky and all Arabic countries sky tonight, because it will be just after sunset time over Doha sky and all Arabic and Islamic countries’ sky.
According to astronomical calculations, the first of Al Moharram month and new Hijri year 1440H will be on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, and the Hijri month “Dhul-Hijja 1439 H” will be ending tomorrow.
The Hijric calendar depends on Moon’s motion on its orbit around the Earth, while the Gregorian calendar depends on Earth’s motion on its orbit around the Sun.
