Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced the closure of the vegetable and fruit section in three food outlets in Hazm Al Markhiya, Lusail, and Old Airport for violation of Article 7 of Law 8 of 2008 on consumer protection.
The affected outlets include Marza Hypermarket, Family Food Center, and Abu Khalifa Trading.
According to a statement from the ministry, the violations consisted of displaying products that included misleading data by changing the country of origin for some products and mixing products of different quality with the aim of selling them at a higher price, which is considered a violation of consumers’ rights.
The closure period will be three days for each outlet, from February 7th until February 9th, 2023, MoCI said.
"This measure comes as part of the intensive inspection campaigns carried out by the Ministry to monitor markets and commercial activities in Qatar and aims at controlling prices and uncovering abuses and fraudulent, counterfeit, and non-conforming goods," the ministry noted.
MoCI stressed that it would not tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in Law No. 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection and its executive bylaws.
"The ministry is working to intensify its inspection campaigns in order to control violating practices and to refer violators of laws and Ministerial decisions to the competent authorities so that appropriate measures can be taken," it said.
