Doha, Qatar: The South African community in Qatar came together in a vibrant celebration of their culture and heritage on October 4, 2025 in Doha as part of the Culturally South African Heritage Day festivities.

The event coincided with a thrilling Boktown gathering, where expatriates cheered on the Springboks to a 29–27 victory over Argentina’s Los Pumas, securing the Rugby Championship title for the second consecutive year.

Hosted at the iconic Public House, the event welcomed former Springbok rugby legends AJ Venter and Gio Aplon, alongside representatives from Brand South Africa, the official marketing agency dedicated to promoting South Africa’s global reputation and competitiveness.

South Africans, affectionately known as “Saffas,” donned green-and-gold sporting gear and traditional attire, enjoyed authentic South African cuisine such as braaivleis (barbecue), and home grown entertainment and music.

Sport has long been a unifying force in South Africa’s history, bridging divides in a once-fragmented nation. “

Our goal is to create a home-away-from-home for South Africans in Qatar, fostering community, cultural pride, and meaningful connections that embody the values of Ubuntu, excellence, and innovation,” said a representative of the South Africans in Doha Community Leadership Team, a voluntary role that arranges many events and information sharing social media platforms supporting the estimated 6,500 South Africans living in Qatar.

Brand South Africa’s General Manager of Global Markets attended to support the celebrations and welcomed new community ambassadors to their Global South Africans Network program, including Gerald Moswathupa, Brenda Jantjies, and Vincent Mace.

This initiative strengthens ties between South Africans abroad and their homeland, promoting collaboration and cultural pride.
