DOHA: The new Mesaimeer health centre that will open in November this year will have a Medical Commission unit where mandatory health checks for newly recruited workers will be conducted.
The health centre, to be run by Qatar Red Crescent (QRC), will have the capacity to host 32,000 workers a month. Workers’ health centres at present can host 44,000 workers a month, and this number will reach 76,000 once the five centres are completed.
The health centres, at Fereej Abdul Aziz, Mamoura, Mesaimeer, Industrial Area and Zikrit, will all be operated by QRC as part of its agreement with the Supreme Council of Health.
Qatar Red Crescent first built a workers’ health centre in the Industrial Area, then it followed it with the Wafideen health centre in Fereej Abdul Aziz, and the Mesaimeer health centre, he said.
It is also operating an emergency centre for workers in the Industrial Area that is dedicated to taking care of injured workers. The emergency centre has doctors and surgeons doing simple operations, while complicated cases are being transferred to Hamad Medical Corporation.
The source said there would be a specialised centre for diabetes and ENT for workers at Mesaimeer health centre, adding that these services were being provided only at the Abu Hamour health centre, but because of the large population of workers in the country there was always a lot of crowding there.
