DOHA: Qatar’s main index fell marginally yesterday as retail investors booked profits. The index of Qatar Exchange (QE) slipped 35 points, or 0.34 percent, to 10,336.50 points.
However, the bourse’s total trading value was up, reaching over QR1.08bn, as it included a Treasury Bill (Series TA77) that was traded on special market.
The bill’s trading value totaled QR797.87m, a QE operations department official told Qatar News Agency (QNA). “The treasury bills were issued by Qatar Central Bank and were listed on QE on Tuesday.”
However, it was the first day of its trading, QNA said. The volume of equity traded yesterday was over 9.9 million shares across 4,244 transactions.
The trading value, including the TA77 Bills, totaled QR1.08bn. Yesterday, 39 from the 42 listed companies were busy on the trading floor. Eight of them advanced, 28 declined and three remained unchanged.
Dlala (DBIS +2.15 percent) was among the top gainers, closing at QR21.89. Telecom operator Vodafone Qatar (VFQS +2.11 percent) was up at QR11.59 from QR11.35 on Tuesday. Ooredoo (QRDS +0.74 percent ) was up at QR136.30. Qatar Insurance (QATI + 0.75 percent) was the only one from the insurance sector to gain, closing at QR67.50, up 0.50 dirhams from the previous day.
Qatar Navigation (QNNS -2.30 percent) was the day’s biggest loser dropping by QR2 to QR85. The industrial sector index was down 0.85 percent. The real estate sector index was down 0.80 percent.
The consumer goods and services sector index was down 0.72 percent while the banking and financial sector index was down 0.22 percent. The two-operator telecommunications index was up 0.95 percent and the insurance sector index was up 0.32 percentage points.
