Moscow, Russia: An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of the Kuril Islands in Russia on Wednesday.
The Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 70 kilometers.
No tsunami warnings were issued.
Various parts of Russia, including the Kuril Islands, regularly experience earthquakes and tremors because they lie in areas where several tectonic plates converge, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
