Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs continues to direct returns from specialised endowment funds towards addressing evolving community needs, with the Endowment for Supporting Vulnerable Families serving as a key initiative to promote family stability and strengthen social solidarity.
The ministry said the endowment reflects its commitment to maximising the social impact of charitable endowments by supporting families in need through an institutional framework that works in coordination with relevant state authorities to ensure assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries in accordance with approved regulations and donors’ conditions.
Sheikh Dr Ahmed Al Farjabi, preacher at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, said vulnerable families occupy a special place in Islamic teachings because of their patience, dignity and reluctance to seek assistance despite facing financial hardships.
He noted that the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah place particular emphasis on caring for such families, describing them as people whose modesty may lead others to believe they are self-sufficient, even though they may struggle to meet their daily needs.
Al Farjabi said the endowment system has historically played a vital role in supporting priority groups in society by embodying the Islamic values of solidarity, compassion and mutual assistance.
He explained that the Endowment for Supporting Vulnerable Families forms part of the General Directorate of Endowments’ broader strategy to allocate endowment revenues to priority social sectors while reaching families whose needs may not be readily visible to the public. The initiative aims to enhance family stability and help beneficiaries meet their essential living requirements.
Highlighting the programme’s governance framework, Al Farjabi said beneficiaries are not selected through direct applications from individuals.
Instead, eligible families are identified in coordination with competent government institutions to ensure accurate verification of cases and proper distribution of endowment proceeds in line with approved procedures and the wishes of donors.
According to Al Farjabi, the endowment generates multiple social, economic and humanitarian benefits. Socially, it contributes to strengthening family cohesion and reinforcing the values of solidarity within society. Economically, it supports families in improving their financial independence and resilience, while psychologically it provides reassurance, dignity and a greater sense of security and stability.
The ministry also encouraged philanthropists and donors to contribute to the endowment through the General Directorate of Endowments’ website, mobile application and other digital endowment services, noting that such contributions provide an enduring charitable legacy while helping improve the lives of vulnerable families and promoting long-term social stability.
