Doha, Qatar: The Public Prosecution in Qatar announced today the referral of 16 defendants to the competent criminal court on charges of bribery, abuse of office, and damage to public funds.
The Public Prosecution stated, in a statement, that "His Excellency the Public Prosecutor ordered the referral of 16 accused, including 4 employees of Hamad Medical Corporation, for committing bribery, abuse of office, abusing public money, breaching the freedom and integrity of tenders related to the state, and money laundering."
The statement added that investigations showed that employees had been exploiting their position at Hamad Medical Corporation, favoring certain companies owned by the other defendants, and facilitating their obtaining of contracts to supply medical materials and supplies to HMC in exchange for sums of money.
The statement of the Public Prosecution stated that "after sufficient evidence, the Public Prosecutor ordered the transfer of the accused to the competent criminal court, to punish them for the accusation attributed to them."
