Ministry of Municipality to launch Waste Recycling and Treatment Guideline

To enhance state efforts for sustainability, the Ministry of Municipality has announced to launch Waste Recycling and Treatment Guideline for optimal utilisations of recyclable materials at 3rd Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference and Exhibition.

The conference will be organised by the Ministry of Municipality on May 9 and 10 in Doha under a slogan “Together We Make the Difference for a Sustainable Future”.

The announcement was made at a press conference organised by the Municipality at its headquarters yesterday.

Over 30 experts and speakers from Qatar and abroad in the fields of recycling wastes and sustainability will share their experiences and views during a two-day event.

The conference will also host an associated exhibition with 40 pavilions from government institutions, private sector companies and factories and owners of sustainable initiatives.

Addressing the press conference, Director of Waste Recycling and Treatment Department at the Ministry of Municipality Eng Hamad Jassim Al Bahr said:

“The guideline, first of its kind in Qatar, will contain important information about wastes, size of wastes, treatment methods and phases the wastes go through until it reach for recycling and safe disposal.”

Al Bahr said: “The conference will discuss the latest solutions for waste treatment, recycling and sustainability, and aims to see the latest technologies and systems in the field of developing a waste management system and recycling.”

He said that the main goal of the conference is to encourage all community members to make their contribution in recycle waste by inflicting their behaviour to reduce waste and providing the latest technologies in the field of waste recycling to be adopted by the companies concerned.

The conference will address 10 topics including academic and scientific research in the field of waste management, investment opportunities in the field of waste, laws and systems for waste management, and efforts of Waste Recycling and Treatment Department during FIFA World Cup 2022.

Dr. Fayqa Abdullah Ashkanani, Director of General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality, said that “the Department has prepared a comprehensive media plan to introduce the conference and the exhibition and its goals and cover all its activities.

She said that that a website www.wmdoha.com has been launched for the conference which includes all information related to the conference to ease the participation and registration in the conference and to follow its sessions and outputs.

Mohammed Ali Al Khoury, Secretary General of Expo 2023 Doha, said, “The participation of Expo 2023 Doha as a strategic sponsor in Conference to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and the promotion of sustainable innovation in the region.

Moqbel Madhour Al Shammari, Director of the Public Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality, explained that the Ministry has made great strides in the field of waste management by launching the integrated program for sorting waste from the source in its various stages, which targets government and private agencies in the country.
