Jassim Hassan Bu Hazza, Director of Endowment Funds Affairs at the General Directorate of Endowments
Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced the registration of a new charitable bequest from a female benefactor, allocating one-third of her estate to the “Waqf Al-Wuquf” endowment under the Endowment Fund for Righteousness and Piety.
The bequest, which will be administered by the General Directorate of Endowments, reflects the donor’s commitment to ensuring the continuation of her charitable contributions through sustainable endowment projects with long-term social impact.
According to the directorate, the bequest covers one-third of the benefactor’s movable and immovable assets, including real estate, shares, financial balances, and other holdings. The bequest will be implemented in accordance with approved Islamic and legal regulations while fulfilling the donor’s conditions and preserving the objectives of the endowment.
Records maintained by the General Directorate indicate that the benefactor had previously established charitable endowments, underscoring her longstanding belief in the importance of waqf as a means of sustaining charitable work and extending its benefits across generations.
Jassim Hassan Bu Hazza, Director of Endowment Funds Affairs at the General Directorate of Endowments, said the registration of the bequest demonstrates a high level of awareness regarding the significance of both endowments and charitable wills as Islamic mechanisms that enable individuals to continue contributing to society after their passing.
He noted that “Waqf Al-Wuquf” represents a distinctive model for endowment development, as it reinvests returns from existing endowments into establishing new endowments on a continuous basis. This approach, he said, helps multiply the impact of charitable assets and strengthens the sustainability of endowment resources over the long term.
Bu Hazza added that the directorate continues its efforts to promote awareness of endowments and charitable bequests while enhancing the growth and value of endowment assets. These efforts include receiving new endowments and wills, developing endowment projects, and ensuring the efficient management and growth of assets in accordance with Islamic principles and best governance practices.
He said the growing public interest in endowments and charitable wills reflects the confidence society places in Qatar’s endowment system and highlights increasing awareness of the role endowments play in supporting community development and creating lasting benefits for future generations.
The directorate emphasised that charitable bequests offer individuals an opportunity to link part of their estates to sustainable projects that continue generating benefits long after their lifetimes, in line with Islamic teachings that encourage ongoing acts of charity.
Through converting inherited wealth into productive endowment assets, such bequests contribute to the growth of the endowment sector, strengthen community solidarity, and provide sustainable resources for charitable and development initiatives.
The “Waqf Al-Wuquf” model is based on investing endowment capital and directing its returns toward creating new endowments in succession. This mechanism expands the endowment asset base year after year and transforms charitable giving into a renewable source of support benefiting multiple fields of public welfare.
