Doha: The Shura Council participated yesterday in the meeting that was held by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in cooperation with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) in preparation for the convention of the 2nd Parliamentary Summit against Hunger and Malnutrition, which is scheduled to convene next year.
Member of the Shura Council H E Badi bin Ali Al Badi represented the council in the meeting that was held through video conferencing.
During the meeting, Al Badi highlighted the efforts of the State of Qatar in supporting the agricultural sector, achieving food and water security, establishing a committee to follow up on the execution of food security policies in the public and private sectors, as well as establishing Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI).
He laid out a proposal to bolster the role of the international companies that have expertise in agriculture technology and production technologies and increase the partnerships between the governments and private sector, as this proposal shall be discussed during the summit works in pursuit of achieving the intended goals.
The meeting sought to come out with a common vision of the developments and challenges facing the 2nd Parliamentary Summit against Hunger, where the importance of the summit was discussed, in addition to reviewing the findings of the virtual parliamentary dialogues, along with the findings of the relevant courses and surveys.
