Katara to host Halal Qatar Festival from February 28 to March 9

DOHA: Registration for the fourth annual Halal Qatar Festival opens today at Katara.
The festival, from February 28 to March 9 in the southern area of Katara, includes Al Mazayin, a beauty competition for goats and sheep; Al Hadayer barns, each containing a different kind of livestock and Al Mazad (public sale of livestock through auction). There will also be milking and wool shearing competitions.

This year’s festival will be held on a 20,000sqm area and will include barns showcasing desert and wildlife in Qatar.
In Al Mazayin, a panel of judges will choose 10 most beautiful goats and sheep for prizes based on criteria. Al Hadayer will feature 20 barns containing types of livestock.
In Al Mazad, some of the finest sheep and goats will be auctioned in the afternoon throughout the 10-day festival. Breeders will highlight livestock and their products to the public.
Activities on the sidelines include handicraft, food, games, music, ancient art and pony and camel rides for children. A veterinarian will explain about animal health and diseases and the Animal Welfare Department will have a stand to provide information for visitors.
