Doha: Secretary-General of the State Cabinet, H E Hamad bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, has affirmed that the feelings of loyalty and pride that currently overwhelm the country on the occasion of the National Day are sincere feelings that show the nation’s awareness of the meanings of this day, and the achievements of the Founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, and the sacrifices of the ancestors, for the sake of Qatar’s pride, development, and the preservation of its sovereignty, independence and the dignity of its people.

In a statement, he said that on this glorious anniversary, we remember with appreciation and gratitude the efforts of the founder of our state and are guided by his glorious legacy, for he has laid the foundations and established this strong country that is capable of facing challenges.
Therefore, the founding day of the modern State of Qatar, on the eighteenth of December 1878, will remain the most important day in its history, from which it derives determination, strength, renewed ambition and a constant aspiration for a better tomorrow and a brighter future under the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
H E Secretary-General of the State Cabinet indicated that this year’s celebration of the National Day comes while the country is preparing for the elections of the Shura Council, in an important step to reinforce the Shura approach that the founder followed and was a fundamental principle in the relationship between the leadership and the people. The elections come to reinforce the long-established and deeply rooted traditions of the Qatari Shura Council in our society.
His Excellency said that as we congratulate our wise leadership and the honourable Qatari people on this glorious occasion, we express our pride and happiness that our celebration of the National Day comes every year and we live amidst great achievements and witnessed successes both locally and internationally. This year, in addition to the economic, political and social achievements, the success of our health institutions and all concerned state agencies in combating the coronavirus (COVID-19) confirms our ability to face any challenges.
He said this year’s slogan — “We praise you, the Lord of the Thrones” — reflected the extent of the founder’s belief and trust in God Almighty, for with the help of God, our country enjoys the blessing of security and safety, achievements, and gaining appreciation and respect from the countries and people of the world.
