Doha: Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Qatar H E Zhou Jian said that bilateral ties between Qatar and China are historic, despite the geographic distance that separates them.
The ambassador noted that recent years has seen a rapid increase in bilateral cooperation, thanks to the strategic leadership of H E President of China Xi Jinping and Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
He told Qatar News Agency in a statement made to mark the National Day that the two countries cooperated to contain COVID-19. He said that China will never forget Qatar’s support to China in overcoming the pandemic. He noted that Qatar Airways transported 300 tonnes of medical equipment to China.
As for bilateral trade, the Ambassador noted that Chinese exports to the State of Qatar increased 10 percent in the first nine months of 2020 on annual basis. China and Qatar also signed a contract to build three LNG vessels worth $3bn, the Ambassador added. The ambassador also said that Q-Max LNG carrier made its first trip to the Tianjin LNG Receiving Terminal in China. The two sides also signed a deal for 2,814 electric and diesel trucks, something that will play a part in the World Cup 2022’s green transport goal.
On the coronavirus pandemic, the Ambassador lauded the Qatari government’s efforts in containing the virus and stimulating the economy under the leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
The Ambassador concluded by congratulating Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the Qatari people on the advent of the national day, wishing the Qatari people further peace and prosperity under the leadership of H H the Amir.
