Doha: EU ambassador to the State of Qatar H E Cristian Tudor hailed the efforts of the state of Qatar in fighting the effects of COVID-19, pointing out that Qatari assistance in the repatriation of EU citizens back to Europe during the first wave of the pandemic will not be forgotten.
In a statement to QNA on the occasion of Qatar National Day, he noted Qatar's progress in the domain of labour rights and the dismantlement of the kefala system which was considered as a priority area of EU-Qatar cooperation, adding the EU publicly welcomed the progress made by the state of Qatar in the domain of the human rights.

He pointed out to the visit of the EU Special Representative for Human Rights to Doha recently that included reinforcing the cooperation between the EU and the ILO Office in Doha.
He concluded that the EU looks forward to further reinforcing its bilateral relations with Qatar in 2021 and increasing cooperation via organising the Senior Officials Meeting and the Human Rights Dialogue in Doha as well as strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest like research and innovation.
