Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt): In my capacity as Member of Parliament representing French citizens abroad (Africa and the Middle East) and co-founder of the Parliamentary Coalition for Israel and Palestine, I took part—at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron—in the Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, an American-Egyptian initiative attended by President Mahmoud Abbas and numerous heads of state and international representatives.
This summit, marked by the release of Israeli hostages and nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including children unjustly detained, helped consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and initiate preparations for a Euro-Arab conference on reconstruction, co-organized by France and Egypt.
President Macron’s presence proved decisive: it was he who facilitated the historic handshake between Mahmoud Abbas and Donald Trump—an iconic image of dialogue revived after years of rupture.
“Peace cannot be decreed; it must be built step by step, through courage and reciprocity."
“This summit showed that with political will and mutual trust, everything once again becomes possible.”
A parliamentary coalition born from a citizens’ call
The Parliamentary Coalition for Israel and Palestine was created following a visit to Israel and Palestine organized by the association Les Guerrières de la Paix (“The Women Warriors for Peace”), which had called on French MPs to unite in support of dialogue between the two peoples.
This cross-party coalition brings together members of Parliament from across the political spectrum, committed to promoting understanding, cooperation, and mutual recognition between Israelis and Palestinians within the French National Assembly.
France, a driving force for dialogue and reconstruction
The discussions in Sharm el-Sheikh confirmed the central role of the Palestinian Authority in the future governance of Gaza, supported by Arab and European countries.
France, through its Franco-Saudi initiative, succeeded in bringing together ten countries—including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia—around the two-state solution, the protection of civilians, and humanitarian reconstruction.
"Peace is no longer a utopia—it is being built here and now, by women and men of goodwill."
