Doha: Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the State of Qatar H E Marjan Kamstra hailed the excellent bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Netherlands and the cooperation in various fields, including humanitarian aid, the fight against terrorism, and strengthening the international rules-based order.

In her statement to Qatar News Agency on the occasion of Qatar National Day, she said that the State of Qatar has made notable progress on multiple fronts, and one example is Qatar’s comprehensive labour reforms, adding that the Kingdom of the Netherlands is committed to continue its collaboration with Qatar and the International Labor Organization (ILO) to ensure the full implementation of labour reforms.

She also noted Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s announcement that Qatar plans to hold its first Shura Council elections in October 2021. “The Shura Council election offers great possibilities to enhance parliamentary diversification and citizen participation to the benefit of the people of Qatar. The Netherlands has welcomed this announcement and expressed our readiness to share our expertise with the Election Committee,” she said.

She pointed out that her embassy is active in both the political and economic realm, and works closely with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs on various projects in light of the technical agreement with the ILO.

She added that at the same time, many Dutch companies are contributing to Qatar’s National Vision 2030 in energy, food security, health care and sports, pointing out that major events such as the FIFA World Cup 2022 and Horticulture Expo 2023 provide opportunities to broaden and deepen economic ties.

The Ambassador congratulated Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and all Qatari people on the occasion of the National Day, saying it is a day to celebrate the Qatari people’s determination, resilience and innovative spirit. It is also a day to reflect on the efforts of previous generations and to look forward to a future characterized by prosperity, unity and solidarity, she added.

She stressed that the Dutch government echoes Qatar’s commitment to an international rules-based order, pointing out that the Kingdom of the Netherlands at all times promotes the crucial importance of multilateral cooperation in order to realise peace, justice and sustainable development. Qatar shares the conviction that international cooperation within the multilateral framework is key to addressing shared global challenges, she noted.

She also spoke about the efforts by Qatar and the Netherlands to contain the coronavirus pandemic, saying that the pandemic illustrates the importance of collective effort and solidarity in order to contain the virus, adding that Qatar and the Netherlands both aim to strike a balance in safeguarding people’s health, whilst simultaneously limiting the adverse impact the virus has on the economy.

“Virus does not respect national borders, which makes it all the more important to maintain global solidarity in our efforts to tackle it,” the ambassador said.
